Beth Winter

Mission Be is dedicated in loving memory of Beth Winter, the beloved younger sister of our CEO, Carin Winter. Beth taught Carin — and everyone who knew her — about the power of kindness, the beauty of grace, and the joy of living with compassion.

Beth was a gifted and caring young woman who graduated with honors from the University of Rhode Island and studied abroad at Oxford Brookes University. She was known for her warmth, generosity, and love for people and animals alike. Whether visiting the elderly, caring for children, or rescuing a bird in need, Beth’s gentle heart and helping hands made the world brighter.

Beth died suddenly in 2003 from a dangerous side effect of the SSRI anti-depressant drug, Paxil which was prescribed to her by her primary care physician, one week earlier for mild acute anxiety related to her first job interview after graduating college.

Beth’s legacy is at the heart of Mission Be’s work. Her natural mindfulness and compassion inspire us to bring these same qualities to children, educators, and communities. We believe that by teaching mindfulness and social-emotional learning, we can help others live with the kindness, peace, and grace that Beth embodied every day.

Beth once wrote in her journal a quote by Henry Drummond:

“When you look back at the moments when you have truly lived, it is when you have done things in the spirit of love.”

It is in this spirit of love that Mission Be was created — and continues — to inspire compassion, connection, and well-being in the world.

My Sister, Beth Winter
